From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mirabel is an off-island suburb of Montreal, and Regional County Municipality in western Quebec northwest of Montreal.
The city was the home of Montréal-Mirabel International Airport. The population in 2006 was 34,626.
It is currently the fastest growing city in Canada with a 40% growing rate as of 2006. To compare, Calgary has a growing rate of 15%.
A recreation and tourist project, named Lac Mirabel, will be located in Mirabel, Quebec. It will be an investment of $350 million and will create some 3200 jobs. The city will be served by commuter trains of the Blainville-Saint-Jerome Line of the Agence métropolitaine de transport, or AMT (in English, the "Metropolitan transportation agency"), the umbrella organization that plans, integrates, and coordinates public transportation services in the Greater Montreal, Quebec, Canada area. Commuter trains to Montreal started to serve the Saint-Jérôme station on Monday January 8, 2007, with four trains in each direction each business day.[1] However, the Mirabel train station has not yet opened, due to delays in rezoning agricultural land for use as a train station.
