The very first Miss Earth pageant, organized by Carousel Productions, was held on October 28, 2001 in Quezon City, Philippines. There were 42 candidates that attended the event. Catharina Svensson was crown as the pageant's first winner, and have her nation Denmark receive its first international pageant title.

• Carlene Ang Aguilar of the Philippines would later be a semi-finalist in Miss World 2005 and Miss Chinese International 2004 2nd runner-up.
• Jelena Keirane of Latvia would later join Miss International 2004 (and become a semi-finalist)
