Moers Festival is a international jazzfestival in Moers/Germany happening yearly every Whitsun.

1972 founded by Burkhard Hennen, as initiator and artistical director. The International New Jazz Festival Moers etablished quickly in the national and international Freejazz scene.

In the early years it took place in the paved yard of the castle until it moved in the near park because of the growing audience. After a few years outdoors it happened now in a large marquee.

In 1979 the festival was enlarged with several forenoon projects with national and international musicians.

The African Dance Night was added as a popular event in 1985. Well known musicians like Mori Kante, Salif Keita, Cheb Mami and Youssou N’Dour played there. After the artistical director changed in 2006 the event was cancelled.

In 2005, after 34 years being the successful artistical director, Burkhard Hennen finished his activity. Reiner Michalke took the job. The festival is now named mœrs festival.

Within the years the festival's music character chanded from pure free jazz over worldmusic to the crossovers of popular music nowadays including all kinds of music.

The list of famous musicians is long: Cecil Taylor, Lester Bowie, Herbie Hancock, Abdullah Ibrahim (aka Dollar Brand), Archie Shepp, Sun Ra, Jan Garbarek just to name a few.
