Mohsin Hamid

Mohsin Hamid (born 1971) is a Pakistani author. He grew up in Lahore, graduated from Princeton University summa cum laude in 1993 and from Harvard Law School in 1997, and worked for several years as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company in New York City and as a freelance journalist in Lahore. He now lives in London and since 2006 has held both British and Pakistani citizenship.

His first novel, Moth Smoke was published in 2000 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in the US, Granta in the UK, and worldwide in 10 languages. It won a Betty Trask Award, was a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award, and was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. It was also adapted for television in Pakistan and as an operetta in Italy.

His second novel, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, was published in 2007 by Hamish Hamilton in the UK, Harcourt in the US, and worldwide in 16 languages. A short story based on the novel, called "Focus on the Fundamentals", was published in the Fall 2006 issue of the Paris Review.

His journalism and essays have appeared in Time (magazine), The New York Times, The Independent, and other publications.
