Monash University, Malaysia campus

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Monash University Malaysia (MUM) campus is often referred to as the Sunway campus, due to its location in the Bandar Sunway township in Malaysia, a development of the Sunway Group. Presently the campus shares a cluster of buildings with Sunway University College. The university will move in July 2007 into its own campus, also in the Bandar Sunway area. The university also operates a Clinical School in Johor Bahru, a city located in the south of Peninsular Malaysia. MUM is one of two Monash campuses outside the state of Victoria in Australia (This is exluding the two other overseas 'centres' in Prato, Italy and London).

A key attraction of the institute to Malaysian and other Asian residents is that the testamur issued upon graduation is indistinguishable from those issued by the Australian campuses, which at least by impression lends a greater level of prestige to the graduate, while at the same time allowing students to enjoy lower tuition costs and substantially lower living expenses.

Monash University Malaysia offers courses through five schools - School of Arts & Sciences, School of Business & Commerce, School of Engineering, School of Information Technology and School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Students can also take up Honours programmes, as well as Master's, MPhil and PhD courses. The Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) programme is also available; however, it is administered by the Sunway University College.

Most Monash University Malaysia courses are accredited in Malaysia and Australia.Recently, the university also received accreditation from the Australian Medical Council (AMC) for its MBBS programme. It is the first programme fully taught outside Australia and New Zealand to be accredited by the AMC. It also gained accreditation in Engineering Courses by Engineers Australia and The Board of Engineers Malaysia.
