Monmouth is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

This is an unusual seat among Welsh seats in that it is a mostly safe bet for the Conservative Party in South Wales. It has not had coal mining, steelmaking or any other significant industrial traditions, and is mostly rural. Although there are no rock-solid Tory seats in Wales, this constituency is the closest they will come to. Labour won the seat in their glory years of 1966 and 1997,and also via a by-election in 1991 and narrowly in the 2001 election, but, despite this, it is generally more favourable to the Conservatives except in very bad years for them.

Originally the constituency covered the entire of the county of Monmouth, except for the Monmouth Boroughs of Monmouth, Newport and Usk. The county constituency returned two members and the borough constituency one.

The Representation of the People Act 1918 redefined the constituencies so that the county constituency was based on the administrative county, returning five members (Abertillery, Bedwellty, Ebbw Vale, Monmouth and Pontypool) and a new Newport constituency was formed from the county borough of Newport, returning one member.

The present boundaries date from the constituency re-organisation of 1983 and in common with all seats after this time, returns one member.
