Mooninites

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mooninites are two-dimensional aliens that appear in the animated series Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Ignignokt and Err, voiced by Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro respectively, are both similar in appearance, but Ignignokt is larger and green, while Err is smaller and purple. They have appeared in more episodes than any other recurring characters, including all episodes in season 3 which featured the Mooninites in a non sequitur cold open. They are also appearing in the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters as well as an unnamed ATHF "violent, action golf game" for PlayStation 2 due out sometime in 2007.[1]

Spacecataz, a spin-off based on these characters, was created by ATHF creators Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro. It followed the Mooninites as they clashed with the Plutonians, Oglethorpe and Emory, in outer space, by means of pranking, embarrassing, or simply annoying the other. The pilot episode of Spacecataz was the basis of the cold openings in season 3.

Ignignokt
Ignignokt

Ignignokt, as the leader of the Mooninites, concocts various plans that never cease to annoy the Aqua Teens and Carl. When these plans don't work and he is endangered, he makes a hasty retreat, even leaving without Err in "The Last One". He makes reference to rock-and-roll music numerous times, especially in "Revenge of the Mooninites" where he torments the Aqua Teens with a Foreigner belt, a voice-activated weapon that uses Foreigner song names like "Double Vision" and "Cold as Ice" as commands. In "The Last One", he references the Scorpions song "Rock You Like a Hurricane". He is also seen shredding a guitar on the Spacecataz pilot.

In the episode "Remooned", Ignignokt steals a 'welfare check' from his Uncle Cliff and entices the Aqua Teens to try to cash it, though it's really a radioactive bill. In "Moon Master", Ignignokt distributes copies of an incredibly easy video game in an effort to convince people to sign up in their pyramid scam, which involved a large, purple Mooninite called the Gorgotron that was laying waste to the Mooninites' "craps". In "Moonajuana", he gave Shake and Meatwad "moonajuana" (which they thought was marijuana, but was really just burning tires).

Err
Err

Err is known for his trash talk. He regularly coerces Meatwad into going along with Ignignokt's schemes. He has said that the reason he acts the way he does is because he does not have a father and needs attention. Err fits precisely into the notch on Ignignokt's head, and when combined they can pool their firepower into the "Quad Laser", which is a stronger, yet slower, version of their (already impractically slow) standard lasers. A larger and more powerful version of this attack, the "Quad Glacier", which is done by replicating themselves into the form of a massive pistol, moves at a pace that barely registers to the naked eye.

On January 31, 2007, a number of LED fixtures placed as part of a guerrilla marketing campaign for the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters were found in the area of Boston, Massachusetts and taken as suspicious, prompting action from authorities. The devices depicted Ignignokt and Err giving the finger, something they both frequently do on the show.
