Mount Mary College

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mount Mary College is a Catholic liberal arts women's college, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It offers bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees in thirty undergraduate majors, and Master of Arts and master of science degrees in six graduate programs.

The college is particularly known for its fashion product development, fashion merchandise management, interior design, art therapy, justice, and nursing programs.

Mount Mary originated as St. Mary's Institute, a secondary school for girls, founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, in 1872. The school's mission was extended to post-secondary education in 1913, when it was rechartered as St. Mary's College. The college moved to an eighty-acre site in Milwaukee in 1929 to allow more women the opportunity to enroll, and was renamed Mount Mary College at that time.

The college is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The current enrollment is more than 1,600 students.
