Murder at the Gallop is the second of four films, made by MGM, based on novels by Agatha Christie and starring Margaret Rutherford as Miss Jane Marple, Charles "Bud" Tingwell as Inspector Craddock and Stringer Davis (Rutherford's real-life husband) as Mr. Stringer.
It was made in 1963 and directed by George Pollock, with James P. Cavanagh credited with the adaptation. The music was by Ron Goodwin.
The plot is based on the novel After the Funeral but changes the action and the characters. Hercule Poirot is replaced by Miss Marple.
After Mr Enderby, a rich and eccentric recluse, is found dead, apparently of a heart attack, the family gather for the reading of his Will and learn what they've inherited. His sister Cora declares that she believes he was murdered, and Miss Marple overhears. Next day, Cora is found dead.
In order to investigate, Miss Marple decides to spend some time at a hotel/riding school run by Cora's nephew Hector Enderby (Robert Morley). Whilst she is there, another murder takes place. Who are the killers? Are they the same person? And who benefits from Enderby's death?.
