The 905 area code has produced some of the most well-known bands in Canadian Music in recent years. Nestled between the surrounding areas of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Buffalo, New York, USA, the area code is made up of large cities Hamilton, Brampton, Burlington, Oshawa, Whitby, Oakville, Mississauga and St. Catharines and smaller cities and towns such as Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Milton and Stoney Creek. The area has always produced a large number of bands and musicians considering the relatively small size of the cities and towns.

Many bands and musicians from the 905 music scene have made serious headway into both the Canadian and International music scenes.

A number of magazines and online zines have been talking about the incredible number of garage bands from the 905 who have been becoming popular touring bands recently - especially younger bands like Alexisonfire, Boys Night Out and Silverstein [1].

Of course, much of the relevance of a music scene is often determined by labels signing bands. The 905 music scene has been a popular place for labels to find talent.

The 905 boasts a large number of touring bands and solo artists spanning a number of genres. Along with these active musicians, there are also many defunct 905 artists - some of which have influenced the current generation.

Many 905 area bands have been recognized for their work with various awards. The most respected award for music in Canada is the Juno and 905 bands and solo artists have been nominated for and won a number of Juno Awards in various categories.

Along with Juno Awards, artists from the 905 have been nominated for and won many other awards, which are also listed.

The Juno Awards are awards of achievement presented to Canadian musical artists and bands each year.
