Association of Muslim Scholars

The Association of Muslim Scholars (Arabic: هيئة علماء المسلمين Hayat Al-Ulama Al-Muslimin) also sometimes called Association of Muslim Clerics or Muslim Scholars Association), are a group of Sunni Muslim religious leaders in Iraq.
Its main members include Harith Sulayman al-Dhari (Chairman), Muthanna Harith al-Dhari (Chairman's son and spokesman), Abdel-Salam al-Kubaisi and Abdel-Sattar Abdel-Jabbar. Others include Dr Muhammad Bashar al-Faithi, Ahmed Abdul Ghafour al-Samarrai, Mahdi Ibrahim and Umar Raghib.
It was formed on the 14th of April 2003, only four days after the toppling of Saddam Hussein's regime in Baghdad by a U.S.-led invasion in 2003 by a group of sunni scholars in the aim of representing the sunni's in iraq.
They as of yet have not joined the newly formed government and remain as opposition group due to the fact that they believe joining the process whilst Iraq is under occupation is unjust.
