My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown, is a 1989 film which tells the story of Christy Brown, an Irishman born with cerebral palsy, who can only move his left foot. It stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Ray McAnally, Brenda Fricker, Fiona Shaw, Alison Whelan, Kirsten Sheridan, Declan Croghan, Eanna MacLiam, Marie Conmee and Cyril Cusack.

The movie was adapted by Shane Connaughton and Jim Sheridan from the book of the same name by Christy Brown. It was directed by Jim Sheridan.

It won Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Daniel Day-Lewis) and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Brenda Fricker). It was also nominated for Best Director, Best Picture and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.

It also won the NYFCC Best Picture Award for 1989. In 2005 it was voted the second-best Irish movie of all time, behind The Commitments. [1]

In season 4, episode 63 of Family Guy entitled "Jungle Love" Stewie claims that he toured Europe with his own musical rendition of My Left Foot.

In Gilmore Girls Lorelai claimed she was doing a rendition of "my left foot", only with her right foot.

In the 1990's cartoon comedy series, "The Critic", character Jay Sherman (voiced by actor Jon Lovitz) speaks in an episode where a fellow character has the ability to change the endings of movies, saying that he does not want "the guy from 'My Left Foot' to become a kicker for the Bears."

Ricky Gervais reviews the film on his show on XFM.

The first track of the 1999 album The Siket Disc from jam band Phish is named "My Left Toe," a nod to the film from bassist and film director Mike Gordon.
