NETFILE

NETFILE is an electronic tax-filing method that allows individuals to submit personal income tax and benefit returns directly to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) using the Internet. It is not to be mistaken with EFILE used by tax professionals to file tax returns on behalf of their clientele.
The service used to NETFILE your 2006 personal income tax and benefit return is open from February 12, 2007, until September 30, 2007. To submit a return you must use CRA approved commercial tax preparation software or a web application. They become available at the end of January. The following list is preliminary and should not be considered complete. Check the CRA web site or the links below for updated certification status.

Internet Filing Pilot Project Announced
On June 15, 1999, the Minister of National Revenue announced that a pilot project would allow approximately 3.5 million Canadians to file their 1999 tax returns via the Internet. Those eligible for participation received an invitation and a unique identifier that allowed them to use the new filing option. The pilot Internet filing project was open to those who used commercial software to prepare their own 1998 tax return and then filed a computer-generated paper return. The use of commercially available tax preparation software approved by Revenue Canada was mandatory.
