Namco Bandai Holdings, Inc. (株式会社バンダイナムコホールディングス Kabushiki-gaisha Bandai Namuko Hōrudingusu?) is the Japanese holding company for Namco and Bandai. The new entity was founded on September 29, 2005. Bandai officially purchased Namco but both companies continue to operate independently and share equal powers within the new corporation. However in North America, the two traditonal brands have largely disappeared from the video game market since the merger, with new games more and more being released under the Namco Bandai Games label.
Bandai is currently the world's third largest producer of toys, and also owns Sunrise, a Japanese animation company. Namco is primarily a video game developer based in Japan.
The company also has fully acquired developers Banpresto and Namco Tales Studio since the merger. Formerly, both were partially owned by Bandai and Namco, respectively.
