Naseeb

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Naseeb (ﺐ‎ﻴ‎ﺼ‎ﻧ‎) is an Arabic term meaning destiny or fate. Naseeb.com is a Muslim social network service similar to Friendster.com that allows Muslims around the world to interact for reasons such as sharing views, finding a soul mate, activity partners, or setting up friends with individuals they may encounter on the website. Naseeb, the website, started off as a free site which gained a lot of visibility amongst Muslims and national media. Soon after Naseeb added features such as chats, villages, and more space to upload pictures for a fee. These features are accessible to all members who can use them by building a friends-of-friends network which helps ensure that the interactions on the site are built upon trust.

Naseeb.com also has an E-Zine called Vibes www.naseebvibes.com which has featured articles by over 500 interviews including those of Islamic scholars like Imam Faisal Rauf, Dr. M. Nejatullah Siddiqi, Dr. Javed Ghamidi and Omid Safi, to renowned figures in the Muslim world like Amina Wadud, Dr. Louay M. Safi (Executive Director at ISNA), Raza Kazim (philosopher, musician, historian) and Dr. Asma Barlas (author "Believing Women" in Islam). Vibes has also conducted exclusive interviews with Noam Chomsky and former Presidential candidate John Kerry.

Naseeb.com has recently launched a feature to help promote artists from across the Muslim world called N-Tunes www.naseeb.com/tunes. It currently has over 70 artists from Palestine, Pakistan, Egypt, Malaysia, India, Africa, to North American and British Muslim musicians. The feature gives free access to bandwidth, webpages, photos, and allows Muslim artists to promote their albums and music through the largest online Muslim social networking community on the planet.

Contents

Naseeb.com is the largest online Muslim social network with over 314,000 registered members. While the majority of members are indeed Muslims, there are also members from other communities interacting on the site. The site is not designed to be socially exclusive for Muslims, rather it is designed as a social mechanism for people who either live in Muslim countries, or have that heritage from those countries, as well as those who live in the 'Western world' in general.

The Naseeb community is a reflection of the global Muslim community in general. Naseeb.com does not cater to any one ideological mind-set and allows a free-expression of opinions on faith, politics and social relations.

While many users have successfully found their soul mates through the site, the Naseeb community equally caters to those seeking friends of similar backgrounds or beliefs in an increasingly globalized world. Interactions in Naseeb Villages, Naseeb user journals, Vibes magazine and N-Tunes reflects the desire of the diverse Muslim community to exchange ideas and make friends through the site. Naseeb's trusted network of friends model helps prevent anonymous fake profiles and thus builds credibility among its members which is why the site continues to grow dynamically.

Over the past few years, Naseeb.com has mobilized its members to help during times of humanitarian crisis such as during the Indonesian Tsunami of 2004, Hurricane Katrina that devastated New Orleans, and the Pakistan Earthquake in 2005.

Naseeb.com has also partnered with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH and RC) to help fight cancer. SKMCH is a state-of-the-art institution located in Lahore, Pakistan which provides free cancer treatment for the underprivileged.
