Natasha Chokljat

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Natasha Chokljat (b. April 27, 1979 in Tasmania) was first called up to the Australian 21U Netball Team in 1998.

After Australian representative Simone McKinnis retired from the Melbourne Phoenix that same year, an opening arose for a talented wing defender to join the Melbourne side in 1999.

Natasha decided to make the big move to Melbourne and has had a string of success playing for Melbourne Phoenix over the past seven years, winning the Commonwealth Bank Trophy Premiership in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2005.

Natasha’s quick thinking on the court and strong work ethic off the court helped secure her spot in the Australian Open Squad in 2003. That same year the competitive and versatile netballer made her successful international debut against South Africa and two months later travelled to Jamaica with the Australian Team to contend the 11th World Netball Championships title.

An accomplished wing defence, Natasha was called upon to fill the unfamiliar centre and wing attack roles in the Australian team. She was a member of the silver-medal winning tea at the 2003 World championships, and retained her spot in the team until late 2005, when she was culled from the national team after two years of service.

Natasha's athleticism, versatility, and fitness saw her gain a well-earned recall to the Australian team in late 2006. While Natasha failed to make it onto the court during that tour, her talent and ability will ensure she remains at the forefront of the selector's minds.
