National Cheng Kung University (Traditional Chinese: 國立成功大學; Simplified Chinese: 国立成功大学; Hanyu Pinyin: Guólì Chénggōng Dàxué; Wade-Giles: Kuo2-li4 Ch'eng2-kung1 Ta4-hsüeh2; Tongyong Pinyin: GuóLì ChéngGong DàSyué), abbreviated as NCKU (成大, Chéng Dà), is located in Tainan City, Taiwan. Cheng Kung is named after Cheng Cheng-kung (Koxinga), a Ming Dynasty hero.

NCKU has long been prestigious: according to a survey published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2003, NCKU was ranked second among all universities in Taiwan, only behind National Taiwan University. Many surveys also show its graduates are most welcomed by Taiwanese companies.

Starting from 2006, Taiwan's Ministry of Education will award NCKU 1.7 billion NT$ annually for 5 consecutive years for its excellent academic performance and potential.

National Cheng Kung University was established in January 1931 as Tainan Technical College (臺南高等工業學校; from 1942 to 1945 臺南工業專門學校?). After the Japanese Occupation, the school name was changed to Taiwan Provincial Tainan Junior College of Technology (台灣省立台南工業專科學校), then Taiwan Provincial College of Engineering School (台灣省立工學院).

As the number of colleges expanded, it was upgraded to a provincial university in 1956, then national in 1971. In 1977, Master's Degree program in Transportation and Master's Degree program in Industrial Management Science were created. In 1979, Master's Degree program in Engineering Science were founded.

The school has 9 colleges and has been led by President Dr. Chiang Kao (高強) since 2001.
