The National Library of Norway (Norwegian: Nasjonalbiblioteket) is the national library of Norway. Its principal task is "to keep the past for the future". The library is located in Oslo. Since 1994, another branch has been located at Mo i Rana. It was opened and restored in 2005. Prior to that, the University of Oslo was assigned the task after the end of the union between Norway and Denmark in 1814.
The Norwegian ISBN Agency, responsible for assigning ISBNs with prefix 82- and 978-82-, is part of Nasjonalbiblioteket.
The national library is also responsible for mandatory deposits made from publishers in Norway. All printed material is to be submitted free of charge.
