The National Youth Competition is the official second tier competition for the National Rugby League. Commencing in 2008, it will consist of the 16 NRL clubs fielding teams made up of players under the age of 20. The draw and structure will mirror the National Rugby League and games will be played as a lead-in to the first grade NRL match. Fox Sports has expressed interest in televising two games per round however no agreement has been met.

The current NSWRL Harold Matthews (Under 16's) and SG Ball (Under 18's) competitions will also be restructured to include all 16 NRL clubs fielding teams of the respective age requirements. For the 2 latter competitions, Melbourne Storm will field a team merged with future feeder club Central Coast Rip. It is unknown at this stage whether both present competitions will keep their name after the restructure takes place in 2008.
