Negative Creep was originally on Nirvana's 1989 debut album, Bleach. The song deals with self-hatred and drug use ("I'm a negative creep and I'm stoned"), and became a staple of Nirvana's live shows. "Negative Creep" was also included on the film documentary Hype! in 1996. Kurt Cobain dwelled on the thought of changing the name of the song to "Neg Crepe" before and after Bleach was released. It is also possible that the song deals with criticism, probably by a poor review from a music critic early in Cobain's career.
A live performance can be seen on the 1994 VHS home video Live! Tonight! Sold Out!!.
Another live version of the song can be found on the 1996 live album From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah.
Machine Head covered the song "Negative Creep". It was released on the Take My Scars cd single in 1997.
Velvet Revolver included a cover version of "Negative Creep" on the single Slither.
