Negiel Bigpond

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dr. Negiel Bigpond is a full-blood Euchee (Yucci). He has also been adopted into the Creek Nation.

Having grown up on the reservation, Dr. Bigpond was required to attend a Bureau of Indian Affairs approved Boarding School. His first hand experience of mistreatment from teachers and administrators led to a life long commitment to change the treatment of children on reservations.

Along with Dr. Jay Swallow, Dr. Bigpond developed the Two Rivers Native American Training Center in Bixby, Oklahoma. Two Rivers NATC gives Native American men a Biblically based education and they learn a trade to financially support their families and communities.

Dr. Bigpond has testified before Congress on the treatment, poverty, lack of equal education, and abuse that children on Native American Reservations face. These issues are compounded by the lack of care and hope and have led to suicide being the number one killer of Native Americans between the ages of 15 - 40 years old.

In 2006, Dr. Bigpond became co-host of Always Look Forward – Never Look Back, a Christian based television program aired on God's Learning Channel to reach out to the over 500 Native American Reservations in North America where only 4%-5% of the population are Bible Believers.
