Nerf
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nerf (an acronym for Non-Expanding Recreational Foam) is a product originally introduced as an indoor-safe ball by Parker Brothers in 1969. Created by Reynolds Guyer, who carved the prototype out of foam, Nerf was an instant success. Sales of the balls mounted to four million in the year of their inception. Later, the range of Nerf products expanded through the Super Soaker company to include mock weapons that fired Nerf ammunition, such as rifles and pistols. The product slogan as used frequently in advertising would become "It's Nerf or nothing!"
Aside from toy weaponry, the company also produced several items for sports like football, basketball, and others. As many such items were released throughout the 1990s, they often featured bright neon colors and, of course, soft textures similar to the flagship Nerf ball.
