News 10 Now

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

News 10 Now is a 24-hour local news channel headquartered in Syracuse, New York. It is owned and operated by Time Warner Cable, and is only shown on its network of cable systems throughout Central New York, New York's Southern Tier, and the "North Country" in the westerly Adirondack Region. It was eleventh and last station of this format launched. It began airing in November of 2003.

Time Warner Cable invested a great amount of money to launch this station. It completed a $20 million dollar renovation of Syracuse's former Central Rail Terminal to house its studios.

However, on May 25, 2005, just 18 months after debuting, Time Warner Cable fired 30 staffers in the first of several cost-saving initiatives. All of News 10 Now's production operations were merged with Capital News 9, a sister station in Albany, and R News, a sister station in Rochester. Capital News 9 serves as the "news production hub," while News 10 Now produces select weathercasts for its sister operations. The stations retained their local news gathering crews and facilities.

R News, News 10 Now and Capital News 9 also share news content with NY1, the Time Warner Cable local cable news channel in New York City.

In February 2007, News 10 Now also began covering the Binghamton and Elmira/Corning markets, with three reporters and a technician being hired to run the Binghamton news room. This expansion also necessitated the hiring of five additional workers at the Syracuse headquarters. [1].
