Nicktoons: Battle for Volcano Island is the sequel to the 2005 video game Nicktoons Unite!. This game entails that "the most popular Nickelodeon characters combine their unique weapons and powers to battle the newest enemies as they threaten to destroy a mysterious Nicktoons paradise island. Players will assume the role of up to 6 playable characters from the most popular shows, such as The Fairly OddParents, Danny Phantom, and Spongebob Squarepants." Play as SpongeBob, Danny Phantom, Timmy Turner (with Cosmo and Wanda), Patrick Star, Sandy Cheeks, and Sam Manson to protect the island from an all-new villain named Mawgu.

It released in 2006 for GCN, DS, PS2 & NGB(see below).

Tucker Foley, Squidward Tentacles, and Jimmy Neutron also appear, but only as support and are non-playable.

It's been a year since SpongeBob, Danny, Timmy and Jimmy stopped the Evil Syndicate. When a far away island called Volcano Island is in need of heroes, three crabs get together and perform a summoning to call "The Nine" to free their land from the Mawgu. When the Mawgu overhears and attacks, he disrupts the summoning and all the heroes are scattered to parts of the island. However, two of the heroes (Danny Fenton and SpongeBob SquarePants) have arrived at the Summoners Rock together. The Wise Old Crab explains what's been happening and why they were summoned. Now, Danny and SpongeBob travel together to reach their base camp area. And along the way to saving the island, they must find all of their friends that have been scattered around the island.

• Great Carapace

A giant sand monster with a giant shell on its back. It's defeated by SpongeBob and Danny.

• Plant King Gorge (voiced by Bill Farmer)

A king of another clan on the island being controlled by the Mawgu's ooze. He is defeated by SpongeBob, Danny, Sam, and Sandy.

• The Mawgu (voiced by Fred Tatasciore)

The main antagonist of the game. He is a floating creature that looks like a purple alien with dark purple armor shell around parts of him. He is defeated by Danny and SpongeBob.

The Chosen Ones are some of the Nicktoons characters from SpongeBob SquarePants, Danny Phantom, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, and The Fairly OddParents. They must work together if they are to win and defeat the Mawgu.

These are the characters the player can take control of.

• Danny Phantom with his Ghost Punch and Ecto-Blast (voiced by David Kaufman)
• SpongeBob SquarePants with his Karate and Bubble Blast (voiced by Tom Kenny)
• Timmy Turner with Cosmo's Hammer Blow and Wanda's Wishing Star (voiced by Tara Strong)
• Patrick Star with his Belly Bounce and Cartwheel (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke)
• Sam Manson with her Sweep Kick and Powered-up Peeler Suit (voiced by Grey DeLisle)
• Sandy Cheeks with her Karate and Sea Urchin throwing Stars (voiced by Carolyn Lawrence)

They are a part of the Chosen Ones, but they cannot be played with.

• In Summoners Rock at one point, it shows Plankton's destroyed robot he fought them with in Nicktoons Unite! Danny and SpongeBob even point it out. Other references to levels in various versions of Nicktoons Unite! include Casper High School and Vlad's Castle.
• There are two references in the backgrounds of levels to the still popular (but cancelled) show Invader Zim. The first appearance is in the Fort Crabclaw level (Zim's ship), and the second is during the journey up to battle the Mawgu (Zim's house). This is strange because the credits in the game make no reference to the creator Jhonen Vasquez.
• In order to breathe while on land, SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward use one of Jimmy Neutron's inventions from the previous game (Nicktoons Unite!), as SpongeBob himself explains in the game.
• The names that the prophecies gave to the Chosen Ones are:

SpongeBob = Absorbent Yellow One
Timmy Turner = Three Headed Boy
Patrick Star = Chubby Pink One
Sam Manson = Night Girl
Sandy Cheeks = Deep Sea Squirrel

Squidward Tentacles = Whiny Cephalopod
Jimmy Neutron = Coconut Head

• Timmy says several times "Hey, this is like that show where those people are lost! What was it called again?" Referring to the American TV show Lost.
• Squidward is the only character in this game who didn't appear in Nicktoons Unite.
• In the game, Sandy is wearing her suit and air helmet despite the fact that, being on land, she doesn't need them.
