The Nigerian cricket team is the team that represents Nigeria in international cricket matches.

As is often the case, it was the English who introduced cricket to Nigeria, originally playing amongst themselves. The locals soon picked up the basics of the game, and it began to blossom. [1]

The expatriate population founded the Nigeria Cricket Association in 1932, and the local population founded the Nigerian Cricket Association in 1933. Cricket continued to be divided along racial lines until 1951, when the two bodies formed a joint Board of control. The modern Nigeria Cricket Association was then formed in 1957. Nigeria then became founding members of the West African Cricket Conference in 1965. [2]

Nigeria were part of the West Africa team that gained associate membership of the ICC in 1976. [3]. They competed in the ICC Trophy in 1982, 1994 and 1997, with little success.

Nigeria then became an associate member of the ICC in their own right in 2002. [4] They competed in the African associates championship in 2004, finishing 5th out of 6 teams, missing out on qualification for the 2005 ICC Trophy.
