Nile TV

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nile TV International is the second Egyptian satellite television news network in Egypt, and the first Arab satellite channel to broadcast its programs in foreign languages; English, French and Hebrew.

The first broadcast of NILE TV International began in 1993, during the October Celebrations, with 2 hours of broadcast a day, increasing to 4 hours a day after the official inauguration of the channel on October 31, 1994. The broadcast hours were later increased to 8 hours. Since November 2002, the broadcast hours have been increased to 19 hours a day from 7 a.m. till 2 a.m. of the following day.

NILE TV International is broadcast on four satellites and therefore, its transmission reaches the whole Arab world, the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, and the United States. Moreover, it is also broadcast as a terrestrial channel on ultra high frequency, and this enables Egyptian viewers and foreign residents in Egypt to watch its programs along with the other Egyptian TV channels.

NILE TV International sheds light on Egyptian and Arab cultural, tourist, economic and artistic issues, with strong emphasis on news which is given first priority. It also plays a very important role at the informative, cultural, artistic, economic and tourist levels because it reflects the national Egyptian and Arab opinions, positions and aspirations. It expresses them freely through establishing objective dialogue with others. Based on logic and insight, the dialogue embraces all aspects of globalization because the world has become a single global village.

The aims of NILE TV International are therefore to:

  • address foreign viewers in Egypt and all over the world with regard to culture, economy, tourism, and art, and to initiate a constructive dialogue between different cultures in foreign languages;
  • present the views of the Egyptian government and people on various issues concerning the Arab region and the Middle East, as well as global issues. Those views are presented in bulletins, and news and political programs to present the true Arab and Egyptian viewpoints and positions to European and American viewers, and to all English- and French-speaking people. This way, it can prevent the biased and unbalanced views which harm Egyptian and Arab interests from becoming the only available option for foreign viewers.
  • reflect the image of modern Egypt, and all its concrete achievements in the form of national projects in the fields of education, women's rights, health care, and the establishment of a democratic atmosphere which boosts freedom of speech and allows differences of opinion. All this is presented according to new, modern thought which is reflected in a variety of reports, news programs, talk shows, and forums.
  • broadcast news events from Egypt and the Arab world, spotlighting those events, and analyzing and discussing them with officials, politicians, analysts and cultured Egyptians, Arabs and foreigners in foreign languages.
  • present the Egyptian and Arab views on international events, analyzing and discussing those events to help foreign viewers understand the truth about the Egypian and Arab stances on the current international events in order to protect foreign viewers from falling prey to biased media.
  • present the true images of Egypt, and Muslims and Christian Arabs to refute all allegations and stress the unity of the Egyptian nation.
  • reflect the true image of Islam with all its great values, humanitarian concepts and tolerance in order to face all the attempts of distorting the real image of Islam.
  • broadcast in other languages such as Spanish and German to achieve the highest viewing rates in European and Latin American countries in order to convey the message of the channel in the best possible way.
