Nimitz Class (novel)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nimitz Class is a naval thriller published in 1997 by Patrick Robinson. it is the first book in the series which features admiral Arnold Morgan and Ben Adnam. It is stylistic similar to Tom Clancy particularly the Hunt for Red October. The book has been seen as a subversive satire, in that most of the American "heroes" are simplistic one dimensional characters whereas the villains are far more complex. It has many unexpected plot twists, and much well researched, technical information. It raises many issues, some of which are undeniably possible, such as the theory of Israels hand in all things subersive in the Middle East (Not my personal view, the view of the author)
The plot revolves around an attack on the latest US carrier the Nimitz Class, USS Thomas Jefferson, by an unknown attacker using a nuclear torpedo. what follows is essentially two separate stories one about the search for the attacking submarine, a cold war era Kilo Diesel electric submarine and the how the villain both planned and perform the attack and afterwards evaded and escaped the US military. The hunt for the Kilo results in the sinking of the Ayatollah of Iran's Submarines, an underwater transit through the Bosporus, and an underwater battle near the Falklands towards the end.
