'SYNOPSIS' *CONTAINS SPOILERS*
Trapped on an island in the Pacific is a platoon of Japanese soldiers who have no communication with the outside world. Led by Lt. Koruki (Tatsuya Mihashi) the platoon is kept in check by a firm, but understanding hand that has them making a boat for their escape.
Over the horizon, an American plane comes into view and crashes in the jungle. On this plane is a platoon of American soldiers led by Capt. Dennis Bourke (Clint Walker), SGT Bleeker (Brad Dexter) and 2nd Lt. Blair (Tommy Sands). Confidant to Bourke is the chief pharmacist mate (Sinatra).
As both sides learn of each other's existence on the island, tension mounts resulting in a battle for the boat that's being built by the Japanese, but the conflict results in the destruction of the boat and the serious injury of a Japanese soldier. As a means of calling a truce, Koruki allows the Americans to use the Japanese' water if their doctor will be allowed to treat the wounded soldier whose leg will need amputated.
The truce results in both platoons living without fear reprisals from the other, although a line is drawn forbidding one from encroaching on the other's side of the island. As suspicion mounts the truce breaks down and a bloody and senseless battle ensues as a fleet of American ships come on the horizon.
