Northridge Academy High School is a public, co-educational, secondary school consisting of students in Grades 9-12.

It is located in the Northridge neighborhood in the City of Los Angeles, California, USA. It is directly administered by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The school opened as a partnership between LAUSD and California State University, Northridge.

The school colors are blue and white and the teams are nicknamed the Pumas.

The school contains three academies: Health & Human Development, Arts, Media & Communication, and Leadership & Learning. 9th grade students "explore" the different academies. The students select one for focusing for grades 10 through 12.

As of 2006, Western Association of Schools and Colleges accredits the school.

The school uses block scheduling.

Contents

The school opened on September 9, 2004 with 614 students in grades 9 and 10 1, and currently services approximately 970 students in grades 9-12. 2

Before the school opened, LAUSD referred to the school as Valley New High School #1. The school relieved overcrowding at Monroe High School, Cleveland High School, and Granada Hills Charter High School. 3

Unlike most other schools, Northridge Academy H.S. does not have its own attendance boundary.4 Rather, it shares the attendance boundary of three neighboring high schools (Cleveland, Granada Hills Charter, Monroe). Eighth graders who leave in the attendance areas for these schools have the additional option of applying to attend Northridge Academy H.S. as a 9th grader the following fall 5. Each year the school receives more applications than it can accept. Student applications are sorted based on the student's attendance area home school, and then students are randomly selected. 60% of available slots are allocated to Monroe High School attendance area students, and 20% each to Granada Hills Charter and Cleveland attendance area students. As Northridge Academy H.S. is not a magnet school, students who do not live in the Cleveland, Granada Hills Charter or Monroe High School attendance areas are ineligible to attend Northridge Academy High School.
