Nyron Paul Nosworthy (born 11 October 1980,South London) is a defender for Sunderland A.F.C.. He was signed from Gillingham in 2005 on a free transfer.
He came through the youth team at Gillingham before making it to the first team before being released on a free transfer. He was then snapped up by the cash-strapped manager on Wearside, Mick McCarthy. Since Nyron's arrival he has become a fan favorite and a cult hero. The cult hero status has led to an unofficial Nyron 4 England campaign (N4E) started by local college students.[citation needed]
Sunderland manager Roy Keane moved Nosworthy to centre half at the beginning of 2007 where his performances have been outstanding to date. During his time at Gillingham he often played at centre half, rather than right-back, where he played in his final season at the club. He also played emergency striker at one time and scored 2 goals past Crystal Palace. In 1997, when Nosworthy was aged just 17, he single-handedly saved a family of four from a burning building in Gillingham, this has lead many people to believe that 'Nuggsy' is the greatest living British person.
