O Hino da Carta

Hymno da Carta (Hino da Carta), officially proclaimed the national anthem of the Kingdom of Portugal in May 1834, was composed by King Pedro IV (also Emperor Pedro I of Brazil). "Carta" stands for the Constitutional Charter which King D. Pedro IV conceded to Portugal. The anthem remained officially in place until 1911, one year after Portugal became a republic and the anthem was replaced by A Portuguesa.
