Occidental
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Occidental means generally "western". And like the term western, it is often used to refer to just things of or pertaining to France and England, and later came to also include USA and Canada.
It is a traditional designation (especially when capitalized) for anything belonging to the Occident or West — the western part of the classical world (Europe) and the New World, and especially of its society.
Alternatively, the following may be intended:
- Occidental language, a famous constructed language
- Occidental, California, a town in Sonoma County, California
- Occidental College is located in Los Angeles, California
- Occidental Petroleum is an American oil company
- Oriental ("eastern"; usually of Asia and the Middle East).
- Austral ("southern")
- Boreal or Septentrional ("northern")
