OpenMoko is a project to create a smartphone platform which follows the free and open source software philosophy.
OpenMoko uses the OpenEmbedded build system and the ipkg package system.

Software is available at openmoko.org.
The first OpenMoko hardware will be the FIC GSM Neo1973, the developer version will be availabile in April 2007 at a price of US$350. and the public version will ship on September 11, 2007.[1] Neo1973 is using an optimized linux as firmware and ipkg as package management.
Neo is named after the first year of mobile telephone communication.
