Original 106fm is a radio station broadcasting to the Solent region of southern England, centred on the towns and cities of Portsmouth, Southampton and Bournemouth. It was awarded its broadcast licence in September 2005 and launched on October 1, 2006. It is owned by Canadian broadcaster CanWest and broadcasts an Adult Oriented Rock format, with only 30% of its music coming from past or present Top 20 charts. Original 106fm is notable for holding the first United Kingdom broadcast licence to be awarded to an overseas group.

The station's programme director is John Evington and the breakfast show is presented by Simon James and Hill. Other presenters include Nick Jackson, Tim Butcher (Ex-2CR), Iain Meadows, Martyn Lee, Xan Phillips, Pat Sissons and Richard Cartridge (Ex-BBC Radio Solent).

Following the successful launch of Original 106 for the Solent, UK communications regulator Ofcom awarded CanWest MediaWorks UK the new radio licence for Bristol on September 14, 2006. The new station, also called Original 106, will be 100% locally produced and presented, and will feature a 24-hour local news service (including an extended 15-minute news bulletin each weekday afternoon). Existing local radio stations for Bristol such as GWR FM and Star 107.2 rely heavily on nationally syndicated shows, albeit with local station inserts, or computer automation replacing live presenters. On Thursday 11 January 2007 Ofcom Awarded Original Aberdeen the licence for Aberdeen Scotland due to start September 2007.
