The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is responsible for all first class and Test cricket played in and by the Pakistan cricket team

Pakistan was admitted to the International Cricket Council in July 1953.

The PCB was re-organized in the 1970s, and is headed by former cricketers, professional administrators and trustees, who are often respected businessmen. The Board governs a network of teams sponsored by corporations and banks, city associations and clubs. There is no province-based official team type organization of domestic cricket in Pakistan, and Lahore and Karachi are the two top tiers of all cricket, including reservoirs of fresh talent.

After taking heavy flak for corruption and match fixing, the PCB re-emerged by taking the initiative to sponsor the wildly successful 2004 tour of Pakistan by arch rivals India. The PCB's experiment with the Twenty20 cricket model has also proven popular and hopes to similarly revive popular interest in domestic games.

The major domestic competition is for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, and the ANZ Trophy.

Patron In chief of PCB is President of Pakistan who abolished the elctoral system of appointment of chairman and started appointing his close aides one after the other as chairman, and each one leaving on charges of corruption, public condemnation. Each one adding to the declining cricketing standards of the country. Major reasons for declining standards of cricket in the country had been lack of interest by PCB in development of proper 1st class cricket infrastructure in the country and ADHOC-ism.
