Authentic Party of the Mexican Revolution

The Authentic Party of Mexican Revolution (Spanish: Partido Auténtico de la Revolución Mexicana or PARM) is an Mexican political party, that existed from 1955 to 2000. PARM was generally considered a satellite party of the governing Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI).

The PARM was founded by a group of veterans of the Mexican Revolution who no longer found arrangement in the PRI, headed by Juan Barragán and Jacinto B. Treviño, both revolutionary general outstanding that had held important governmental positions. In order to obtain the foundation of their party, they support President Adolfo Ruiz Cortines whom the way saw to have an officially independent party but that actually secondary in all the actions of its government and the PRI and gave the appearance of democratic competition as much in the elections as in the Congress of the Union.

From their founding to 1988 the PARM never postulated own candidate to the presidency, but that adhered to the candidate of the PRI, also always it supported in greater or smaller degree the presidential proposals in the Congress. It never had real, single political force emphasized again like political competition in the Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, city of which got to gain the Municipal Presidency.

In 1988 the PARM was the first party that it postulated like candidate to the presidency to the former member of PRI, Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano and that structured the beginning of the National Democratic Front, being the first time that this party moved away of the structure of the state, nevertheless when culminating the electoral process, refused to be member of the new party formed by Cárdenas Solórzano with the Mexican Socialist Party and returned to its situation previous from support to the government.

It lost his registry as party in 1994, recovering it in 1999 momentarily, for the elections of 2000 postulated like his candidate to Porfirio Muñoz Ledo, nevertheless the conflicts between the candidate and the leadership of the party was more and more serious, until a month before the elections Muñoz Ledo resigned to its candidacy in favor of Vicente Fox and although the PARM did not recognize this declination, disabled to register a new name, concurred to the elections without candidate and lost definitively their registry.
