Patuakhali is a district in South-western Bangladesh. It is a part of the Barisal Division.

This district is called "SagorKonna", which means daughter of sea. It is watered by the Bay of Bengal.

There are 7 Upazila/Thana in this district. They are Bauphal, Patuakhali sador, Mirzagonj, Dasmina, Kolapara, Golachipa and Dumki. Bauphal is one of the most eduacated Upazila in Bangladesh.

Agriculture is the profession of the most of the people. Fishing is also a prominent profession of this district. Thousands of boats go into the deep sea to fish and come back with tons of fish. Paddy, Jute, and different types of vegetables are the main product of agriculture sector.

One of the most interesting sea beaches in this district is named "Kuakata". Sunset and sunrise can be observed from this sea beach. This is a rare case in the world that you can watch sunset and sunrise from the same sea beach. There are many tribes people living in this district. These people originated from Myanmar and south-eartern India. The majority of them are "Mogg" and "Chakma". You can get a different taste of beauty in being close contact with their lifestyle. Patuakhali University of Science and Technology is in the Dumki Upazila in this district. It is a new, but is a very good university for agriculture and IT education.
