Paul Brush

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paul Brush (born 22nd February 1958 in Plaistow) is an English former professional footballer who is most famous for his time playing for West Ham United, for whom he played from 1976 until 1985.

Brush, a full back, made his debut for the Hammers aged 19 in a 3-1 defeat against Norwich City on August 20, 1977. Brush was substitute for West Ham in the 1980 FA Cup Final at Wembley, when the Hammers became the last side from outside of the top flight to win the trophy. He did not come on during the game but was able to appear at Wembley just a few months later when he started for West Ham in the Charity Shield against Liverpool. He made 151 League appearances for the East London club, scoring 1 goal (against QPR on January 1, 1985). Brush left West Ham in September 1985, joining Crystal Palace.

Brush entered management with Leyton Orient, however was sacked after just a few seasons in charge with the O's languishing near the foot of the league. Following this he joined up with Steve Tilson at Southend United where he became assistant manager. His time at Southend has been extremely successful with the Shrimpers being promoted to League 1 in his first full season at the club. This has been followed by even more success for Tilson and Brush, who have led Southend to the top of League 1, and, after a brief end of season blip, promotion to the Football League Championship. Southend sealed the League 1 title on the last day of the season and now look forward to starting the following season in The Championship, English football's second tier.
