Penguin Group is the second largest trade book publisher in the world, behind Random House. It is owned by Pearson PLC. Its United States arm is Penguin Group (USA); its British division is Penguin Books, the Australian division is Penguin Group (Australia), and there is also a Penguin Group (Canada).

Penguin Group (USA) was formed in 1936 as a result of the merger between Penguin Books USA and the Putnam Berkley Group.

The company uses many imprints, many of which used to be independent publishers.[1]
