Pensacola's most popular theater is its Rave, which has a very large selection of movies and show times. However, many avoid the theater for its high prices.
The Silver Screen is another popular movie theater. They play movies that have just stopped playing in theaters for significantly cheaper than other theaters. They also play many cult favorites during their late-night weekend shows. The theater is also known for having tables and spinning chairs rather than rows; it is also unique in the area for offering alcoholic beverages and pizza along with other foods.
Another classic movie destination is IMAX at the Pensacola NAS.
Pensacola's "music scene" has been growing over the years. For mainstream music there's the Pensacola Civic Center, which occasionally houses some rather big-name concerts. Live jazz can often be found downtown at many of the bars, especially along Palafox street. Gulf Islands Entertainment is an entertainment company based in Pensacola that has been instrumental in organizing concerts such as the Rebirth Brass Band, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones & Col. There are several popular groups in the Pensacola Area. One of them being Luna Mantra http://www.lunamantra.com a world music trio that perform a mix of tango, bluegrass, jazz, groove, gypsy & flamenco.
For punk rock, emo, indie, metal, and similar music, shows can be found throughout the week at Sluggo's, End of the Line Cafe, the Handlebar, and the Gutter Lounge, all of which are described in further detail below.
Electronic events are not exactly prolific in Pensacola (especially for genres outside of house music), however, listings of events can be found at Dream Pensacota. Mechanikal Element is a production crew who are on the forefront of Gulf Coast electronic music.
The University of West Florida has also had some very good bands from just about every genre over the years.
