Peter Gilbert (born 31 July 1983, Newcastle upon Tyne) is an English footballer with Welsh nationality who is currently playing for Doncaster Rovers on loan from Sheffield Wednesday F.C.

He joined Leicester in July 2005 from Plymouth Argyle where he had originally signed on loan from Brimingham City at the start of the 2003-04 season. The young fullback soon proved himself to be as reliable as they come. As soon as he settled, he was one of the first names on the team sheet and performed impressively throughout Argyle's Second Division Championship winning season.

Gilbert joined Sheffield Wednesday in January 2006 from Championship rivals Leicester City, after impressing during a six week loan at the club. He had previously worked under Sheffield Wednesday's former manager Paul Sturrock at former club Plymouth.

He has been capped on several occasions by Wales at under-21 level.

In February 2006, Gilbert failed to defend a cross put in by Chris Armstrong to allow Ade Akinbiyi to score the second goal of Sheffield United's 1-2 victory over Wednesday in the Sheffield Derby at Hillsborough.

On the 30th March 2006 Gilbert learnt that he would miss the rest of the season due to torn cartilage in his knees. [1]

On 9th January Gilbert joined Doncaster Rovers on loan for one month to regain match fitness. Gilbert made 5 starting appearances for Doncaster. Making his debut in the 2-0 victory against League One rivals Darlington. [2]

On the 13th of March 2007 Gilbert made his first start for Sheffield Wednesday in 11 months. Impressing in a 2-0 league win against Colchester United.
