Phil Upton

Broadcaster Phil Upton(or Mr Birmingham as he is nicknamed) was born in Birmingham on 9 October 1966.

His first experience of radio was when he was studying at Birmingham Polytechnic, and has been heard on many commercial stations in Birmingham since his Broadcasting career began in 1987 He started on BRMB, presenting the lunchtime show & a Friday evening Dance show, which was also heard on Mercia & Leicester Sound, then taking over the drivetime show & then the afternoon show.

Upton then hopped off to 100.7 Heart FM in 1998, taking over the afternoon show & a saturday morning show & was also heard on Galaxy 102.2 hosting a weekly dance music show.

Upton then moved back to BRMB in 2003 where he took over the Weekday Mid-Morning show from 9am-1pm & on Saturdays from 9am-12midday as well as a Saturday evening show where he played music from right across the decades. He remained at BRMB until the summer of 2006.

Phil can now be heard on BBC WM, as the Breakfast show presenter every Monday - Friday from 7-10am. The show includes a mix of news, chat, topical discussion & also a Guess the Year competition, where Upton plays snippets of tunes, which made the charts in a particular year & listeners have to guess the year in question.
