Philadelphia Hardcore

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Philadelphia hardcore refers to hardcore punk and thrash music created in Philadelphia and to the subculture associated with that music.

Because of it's location Philadelphia was an easy place for bands from New York and DC to play shows. Venues such as the Love Club, East Side Club, Long march and Community Education Center (CEC)staged early shows by headliner hardcore bands like; Bad Brains, Circle Jerks, SSD, Minor Threat and Black Flag. The local Hardcore scene drew from the city as well as South Jersey, North to Allentown and the Western suburbs.

An important source of exposing the Philadelphia region to this music was the DJ Jeff Jenkins at WKDU, 91.7 FM, Drexel University's radio station and the late Eddie "Hacksaw" at University of Pennsylvania's WXPN, 88.9 FM.
