Planning Inspectorate

The Planning Inspectorate is a United Kingdom Government body appointed by The Secretary of State and given power by the Town and Country Planning (Determination of Appeals by Appointed Persons) (Prescribed Classes) Regulations 1997 (SI 1997/420). The Planning Inspectorate, based in Bristol, determines appeals in England only; a separate office exists in Cardiff for the Welsh Planning Inspectorate, and the Scottish Executive Inquiry Reporters Unit is the equivalent institution in Scotland.

The Planning Inspectorate's main work involves processing of planning and enforcement appeals and holding Public Inquiries into matters that affect planning and Highways. They also deal with a wide variety of other planning related casework including Listed Building Consent appeals, Advertisement appeals, and reporting on Planning applications.
