Port Pirie Regional Council

The Port Pirie Regional Council is a Local Government Area in South Australia, focused on the city of Port Pirie. It has a population of about 22,000 people. The council's administrative facilities and works depot can be found in Port Pirie. Other rural towns such as Crystal Brook, Redhill, Napperby, Nelshaby and Koolunga lie in the council district. Most towns in the district are only about 2 hours from Adelaide and can all be easily accessed by the A1 National Highway.

The city of Port Pirie is 224 kilometres north of Adelaide in South Australia. It was founded as a settlement in 1845 and now has a population of about 18,000. Port Pirie is the site of the world's largest lead smelter, operated by Zinifex Limited [1].
Crystal Brook is named for the stream that passes through the town. It has a population of about 2400.
Redhill is a very small rural town that is 190 km from Adelaide. it has a population of 500 and its major industry is the Silos (Wheat). Plans are underway to build a windfarm near the town.
The Napperby/Nelshaby Region has a population of About 800 people. Its located only 10 km from Port Pirie and is the areas main producer of wheat, barley and etc...
Coonamia and Bungamma are only 4 km south of the town. it is mostly farming land but due to the major population growth in Port Pirie will become a residential suburb.
The fastest growing town in the region is Port Pirie. Currently the city has a population of 18,000 and this number is rapidly growing. By the end of 2008 the city could have a population of over 20,000 people. Crystal Brook is also growing. if it continues to grow as it is by 2008 its population could be 5,000.
