It has more than 30,000 members in some 300 chapters nationwide.

The American Ex-Prisoners of War Service Foundation, based in Watauga, Tennessee, was founded in 1997 to assist in funding the organization. The foundation is certified as a 501(c)(3) organization, with tax-deductible donations are tax-deductible.

POWs may be eligible for special veterans benefits, including medical care in veterans' hospitals and disability compensation for injuries and diseases caused by internment. These benefits are in addition to regular veterans benefits and services to which they are also entitled.
