Amateur Professionals

Amateur Professionals (also Am-Pros or AmPros) is a conceptiul term that describes a growing capability of amateurs to act as professionals in an endeavor that has traditionally only been held by a [Master craftsman http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_craftsman]. The term is a spin on the popular term, [Profesinal Amateurs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_amateurs]--that is, those who attain a professional quality or skill level while not being paid. In the case of the AmPro, teh amateur gets paid like the professional, but may not have the same level of skills as the traditonal professional.
With the advent of enabling technologies in the late 20th century, in certain fields, an amateur is capable of achieving professional levels without the lifetime experience otherwise required. This does not men the qulity of the output is less, but that technology can take up the slack.
An early example of this phenomena is the "[Do It Yourself http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_it_yourself industry]" such as automobiles and home improvement.
Contemporary examples include the medical industry where in the 19th century only a doctor could handle most medical procedures. Today many of those procedures are handled by a [Nurse http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nurses] or [Medical Assistant http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_assistant]and often in an outpatient situation where a hospital stay was traditional only decasdes earlier.
