Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Norman Bates is once again having mother trouble. This time he is invited to share memories of his mother with a radio talk show host, Fran Ambrose. After the death of his father, Norman and his mother lived alone together in a very unhealthy state of interdependence. When Norman was a teenager, his mother took a lover, making him insanely jealous. He murdered them with strychnine and preserved his mother's corpse. But Norman fears that he may kill again, for his wife is pregnant with his child and Norman cannot let another of his "cursed line" loose in the civilized world.

  • Psycho IV was filmed at Universal Studios Florida. The facade of the Bates Motel and the Psycho house were re-created at the theme park.
  • After filming, the Bates Motel facade was utilized for a haunted maze during 1993's Halloween Horror Nights titled "The Psycho Path Maze".
  • The sets were demolished in 2000 for the construction of the "Curious George Goes to Town" Playground.
  • The film has yet to be released on DVD in the United States, but can be found on YouTube divided into ten parts.
