PureVolume is a website owned and operated by Virb Inc. (formerly Unborn Media Inc.); a small, Boston-based social media company[1] where bands and musical artists can promote and advertise themselves. Each artist or band has its own page that may include news, photos, upcoming shows, background/biographical information, contact information, and music for free listening and downloads. Over 400,000 artists[2] house such profiles on PureVolume, most of whom hover around the rock genres, particularly alternative rock, indie rock, and punk rock and its subgenres.
Virb Inc. was founded in 2004 by Brett, Nate and Mitchell of The University of Massachusetts Amherst[3]. Their website, purevolume (also created in 2004 but redesigned in 2005)[4]. , is a promotional grounds for mostly fairly obscure, minor or up-and-coming artists, but also boasts a selection of signed mainstream bands as well. Virb Inc. also owns and operates the projects at virb.com and thebignoob.com.
