Qostanay Province

Qostanay is a province of Kazakhstan. Its capital is the city of Kostanai. The population of the province is 972,800, while the city has 223,600. Another large city in the province is Rūdnyy.

Qostanay Province is adjacent to the Russian federal subjects Orenburg Oblast, Chelyabinsk Oblast, Kurgan Oblast, and is near the Ural Mountains. It also touches four other Kazakh provinces: Aqtöbe Province to the southwest, Qaraghandy Province to the south, Aqmola Province to the southeast, and North Kazakhstan Province (Soltustik Qazaqstan) to the northeast. The Tobol (Tobyl) River, a tributary of the Irtysh River, starts in and flows through the province on its way to Russia. Qostanay Province's area is 196,000 square kilometers, making it the sixth largest of the Kazakh provinces. In the northern part of the province, wheat fields and pine forests prevail; the southern part is dominated by grasslands and shrublands.

In connection with the Soviet Virgin Lands Campaign, much of the area was ploughed for wheat. Qostanay Province is rich in minerals, especially in deposits of iron ore. Are rich The province also has supplies of brown coal, asbestos, clay, and limestone, bauxite, gold, silver, and nickel.
